Focus on Common Ground

Pastordan, whom book-writing has driven over to Religion Dispatches for the nonce, picks up on a post of mine to again sound the clarion against common ground-ism. Meanwhile, over at Focus on the Family, new top dog Jim Daly  is barking a new tune:

"When those who are right, left and center all say, 'Let's make abortion rare,' let's meet at that starting point," Daly said. "Let's shove off the rhetoric and get together on practical matters."
I predict a W.H. invitation in his future.

I think "make abortion rare" is the best possible common ground, but the Christian Right will have to understand that abstinence-only education isn't the way to accomplish this. Did you see last night's Daily Show? Mike Huckabee and Jon Stewart were working toward a similar conclusion.

These days, I think Huck speaks with forked tongue. He's pretty much all partisan, all the time.
